Paula Badosa showed some rekindled form by reaching the round of 16 of the Charleston Open.
Badosa dropped out of the top 100 prior to the Charleston Open, but she won back-to-back matches at the WTA 500 event for the first time since July 2025.
The Spaniard defeated Kayla Day and Maria Sakkari before losing in straight sets to Anna Kalinskaya to end her run.
The star’s hint at better form was enough to convince another tournament to offer Badosa a wild card.

Paula Badosa set for another WTA event after Charleston
Badosa has been awarded a wild card for the Linz Open, which takes place in Austria and begins on April 6.
The Spanish star will join fellow wild card Mirra Andreeva, as well as Alexandra Eala, Ekaterina Alexandrova, and Jelena Ostapenko.
Where should the WTA Finals move to if they leave Saudi Arabia?
Charlotte, USA, is rumored to be a potential replacement…
With just eight players from the top 40 of the rankings, Badosa should see this as another perfect chance to pick up some much-needed victories.
Badosa has never played the Linz Open before in her career, so she will not only hit a career first but she will also not be defending any ranking points.
She currently sits at World No. 102 in the WTA Tour rankings, so she now has the perfect opportunity to join the elite once again.
The Linz Open has been hit by several withdrawals
Following so soon after the incredibly draining Sunshine Double, many WTA stars have opted out of the Austrian event.
With just two days before the WTA 250 tournament kicks off, seven players have withdrawn from the event.
Should there be a fifth Grand Slam?
If so, which tournament would it be?
That includes Emma Raducanu, Clara Tauson, and Daria Kasatkina, who will prolong their return to the clay.
- Daria Kasatkina → replaced by Panna Udvardy
- Barbora Krejčiková → replaced by Elena-Gabriela Ruse
- Emma Navarro → replaced by Julia Grabher
- Emma Raducanu → replaced by Dalma Gálfi
- Antonia Ružić → replaced by Katie Boulter
- Clara Tauson → replaced by Victoria Jiménez Kasintseva
- Markéta Vondroušová → replaced by Anastasia Potapova
Despite losing some big names, the tournament has been boosted by the wild cards of Badosa and Andreeva.
Exciting young prospect Lilli Tagger, who reached her maiden WTA Tour final last year, has also earned a wild card.
