Paul Annacone shared what he will discuss with Taylor Fritz after his ATP Finals loss to Jannik sinner.
The 27-year-old suffered his third successive defeat to the World number one who went to the top of the Ilie Nastase Group.
In a high-quality match, Sinner raised his level when it mattered most and sealed a 6-4, 6-4 win in front of his delighted home fans.
The Italian has now won 23 of his last 24 matches and he is on a mission to claim the season-ending championships title for the first time.
What does Paul Annacone want to tell Taylor Fritz after his loss to Jannik Sinner?
Taylor Fritz was solid on serve throughout the match, as Jannik Sinner had very few opportunities to build a lead.
His chance finally came in the 10th game of the set with Fritz serving to stay in it trailing 4-5. But he played a deft drop shot to bring up set point and he did not waste the opportunity and took the opening set.
Sinner needed just one more break of serve to seal the win and stay unbeaten at the ATP Finals. One of Fritz’s coaches, Paul Annacone, discussed the match on the Tennis Channel Live podcast, and cited the American’s second serve as a shot to improve.
Though he won 79% of his first serve points, Fritz only won 38% of points behind his second delivery, which Sinner took full advantage of.
“That’s the thing and that’s what I will talk to Taylor about. He is so successful this year, in the top three this year, in second serve success rate,” Annacone said.
“But the reason you can’t do that against this guy is because you have to have a proactive mentality. You can’t just start the point off. The best players in the world will exploit that and that’s what Jannik did today.
“Taylor did a terrific job with the first serve but second you have to be more of a target first strike against Sinner, not just target and then see what happens.”

Taylor Fritz now in must-win scenario at ATP Finals
Following the defeat to Sinner, Fritz now needs to win his final match to ensure he has a chance of progressing to the final four at the ATP Finals.
He will take on Alex de Minaur on Thursday night in his final round robin match, who has already been eliminated from the competition following two defeats.
This will be a tricky match for Fritz, who has lost five of his previous eight matches against the Australian.
Their most recent meeting came at the United Cup in January, in the buildup to the Australian Open.
In front of his home fans, De Minaur claimed a 6-4, 6-2 for his country, and since then both players went on to have the best season of their careers so far.
