At 38 years of age, Novak Djokovic is still going strong on the ATP Tour and remains inside the world’s top five.

Though he has not been able to clinch Grand Slam number 25 this year, Djokovic has reached the semifinals at all four majors this year and claimed his 100th title in May at the Geneva Open, adding to his already legendary resume.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have prevented him from emerging victorious on the biggest stages this year, with the Italian denying him at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon, and the Spaniard besting him at the US Open.

The Serb has made it clear he has no intention of calling it a day on his illustrious career just yet, and Serena Williams‘ former coach Patrick Mouratoglou thinks there may be a reason for that, which has nothing to do with adding to his Grand Slam tally.

Patrick Mouratoglou claims Novak Djokovic has lost his drive

In a post on Instagram, Mouratoglou said of Djokovic: “He achieved everything, so I feel that something broke the motivation, the drive that made him the greatest of all time, because he is not here anymore. How long is he going to stay in that position? I don’t think long.

“I think he still likes to be there because I think he probably wants to find a great connection with the fans, which he is starting to have.

“It was difficult while Rafa and Roger were at the top because they had such a strong connection, which was depriving him of having that position and that connection.

“But I think now people value and realise what he has achieved, and start to know him better. He also shows more of himself, and I think he starts to have a great connection with the fans, and I think that’s one of the reasons why he is still here.

“Because definitely the drive doesn’t look like what it was before. It’s a different drive, but it’s not a drive that brings the results that he could have before, and it makes sense, and I understand, but it’s not producing the results he used to have.”

Novak Djokovic can still break the record for the most titles

Even if Djokovic has no chance of clinching a 25th Grand Slam title, there is still another record he is more than capable of breaking.

He is currently third in the all-time list for ATP titles won, trailing only Roger Federer and Jimmy Connors.

PlayerTitles
Jimmy Connors109
Roger Federer103
Novak Djokovic100
Ivan Lendl94
Rafael Nadal92

Should Djokovic choose to enter more ATP 500 and 250 events next season, he will have a greater chance of surpassing Connors’ tally of 109.

However, the great man has stated he intends to spend more time with his family in the twilight of his career, with his focus solely on Grand Slams.
