Patrick Mouratoglou predicts whether Alexander Zverev will ever win a Grand Slam title

Alexander Zverev has qualified for three different Grand Slam finals but is yet to win a Major title.

The world number two has struggled in recent months on the ATP Tour, winning just a handful of matches.

Zverev reached the final of the Australian Open in January, losing out to Jannik Sinner in straight sets, 3-6, 6-7, 3-6.

Zverev then entered four tournaments in the Americas as the number-one seed but failed to reach the semi-finals in all four.

His worst defeat arguably came in Acapulco, as Zverev lost to Learner Tien in straight sets, 3-6, 4-6, suffering a shock exit at the hands of the world number 83.

Having lost most recently at Indian Wells, one top WTA coach has shared his thoughts on whether Zverev can recover to win a Grand Slam title.

Patrick Mouratoglou still thinks Alexander Zverev ‘can’ win a Grand Slam

On Instagram, Patrick Mouratoglou was asked whether he thought Zverev’s chances of winning a first Slam were over.

“I think there are still things he needs to improve in his game,” he said.

“In today’s world, with the top players, not easy, but he can.”

Zverev is widely regarded as the best player to have never won a Grand Slam title on the ATP Tour, having fallen to defeat in three finals.

The German lost his first Major final in a five-set battle at the US Open in 2020, narrowly coming up short against his friend and rival Dominic Thiem.

Zverev will no doubt hope to bounce back from his Australian Open final defeat and get his hands on a first Major title later this year when tennis heads to Paris for the French Open in May.

Patrick Mouratoglou thinks Stefanos Tsitsipas is ‘back in business’ after Dubai Tennis Championships win

The French coach was then asked for his thoughts on Stefanos Tsitsipas, following his recent win in the UAE.

“I think by winning a title, defeating the players he defeated, he showed that he is back in business,” said Mouratoglou.

Tsitsipas won the Dubai Tennis Championships earlier this month, taking down several big names on his way to a maiden ATP 500 title.

The Greek star dominated Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final, as he lifted the title in Dubai having lost two previous finals.

Tsitsipas has carried his good form with him to California, winning his opening two matches at Indian Wells, setting up an intriguing fourth-round clash with Denmark’s Holger Rune.

The pair have played one another three times before, but are yet to play on outdoor hard courts.

Tsitsipas will hope to get his first win over Rune when they play for a place in the Indian Wells quarter-finals on Tuesday, March 11.
