Arthur Fils is enjoying a stellar season on the ATP Tour in 2026.

Since returning from a long-term back injury in February, the Frenchman has climbed back up the rankings from 42nd to 25th in the world following an impressive string of results.

Fils reached the final of the Qatar Open, the quarterfinals in Indian Wells, and the semifinals in Miami before clinching his first title since 2024 at the Barcelona Open.

The 21-year-old is now in the Madrid Open semifinals, where he will take on the world number one Jannik Sinner.

Recently, Fils has been tipped to snap the dominance of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner at the top of men’s tennis, and Serena Williams’ former coach Patrick Mouratoglou says he possesses a rare quality also shared by both of the ‘new two’.

Patrick Mouratoglou says Arthur Fils learns ‘extremely’ quickly

In a post on Instagram, Mouratoglou said: “There is one quality of Arthur Fils that nobody talks about.

“It’s the fact that he’s learning extremely fast, and this is the real quality of the champions. When he’s in a difficult situation or he experiences something negative, he says, okay, this is my issue, next tournament, he solves it.

“When he reached the semifinals in Miami, he was out of gas in his semifinal against Lehecka. He learned from it, the next tournament, he wins the whole tournament and he didn’t run out of gas at all.

Can any of these four players stop Jannik Sinner winning the French Open this year?

“He’s transparent, he identifies the problems, he solves them. This is the sign of the best players.

“When Sinner beats Alcaraz in a big final, Alcaraz says, okay, I see what I need to progress on, he says it, next tournament is corrected. And when Sinner loses to Alcaraz, it’s the same.”

Arthur Fils’ career-high ranking on the ATP Tour

At such a young age, Fils has already proven himself as one of the best players in the world, having achieved a career-high ATP ranking of 14th

He rose to world number 14 in April 2025, following a strong run of form at ATP Masters 1000 competitions.

Fils reached the quarterfinals in Indian Wells, Miami and Monte-Carlo, and earned some big wins along the way.

He defeated Lorenzo Musetti in Indian Wells, Alexander Zverev at the Miami Open, and Andrey Rublev at the Monte-Carlo Masters.

In Monte-Carlo, Fils was a set away from beating Alcaraz in the quarterfinals, but the Spaniard completed a comeback to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
