Novak Djokovic sends emotional message to Alexander Zverev

Djokovic, who played in the French Open but lost in the third round to Joao Fonseca, posted on his Instagram: “Sasha, I have known you since you were 10 years old.

“You were battling on the practice courts with my youngest brother while I was competing against your older brother, Mischa, on the big stage in both junior and pro circuit.

“I’ve nurtured a respectful and friendly relationship with your entire family for many years. We had countless conversations on tennis tactics, strategic plays, life, family, business. We had a fun time on and off the court.

“Knowing what you had to endure with your illness since the young age, overcoming the greatest mental hurdle within yourself and shutting down critics who thought you would never win GS, makes this Grand Slam win even more special and memorable.

“Seeing the tears of joy you had together with your parents, brother and other team members made me emotional.

“I’m happy that you made it and you absolutely deserve this success because you have worked so hard on every front to make it happen. Enjoy it and well done, brother.”

And Zverev has been quick to react, commenting with two love heart emojis.

It’s a classy touch from Djokovic, who is clearly delighted that Zverev was able to take advantage of his shortcomings in Paris.

The legendary figure knocked out French duo Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and Valentin Royer, but was then beaten by Brazilian teenager Fonseca in five sets.

Djokovic isn’t the only player who has taken to social media in the aftermath of the French Open final, with the runner-up having now also shared his thoughts.

Sharing images of his battle with Zverev and of his many fans watching on, Cobolli posted on his Instagram: “Quel voyage! (What a trip!)

“So many emotions. So many memories.

“Thank you Roland-Garros.

“Merci (thank you) Paris.

“And thank you to the biggest blue heart I’ve ever seen.

“Vi amo! (I love you!)”

Cobolli will have taken a lot from his lengthy stay in Paris, from which he has undoubtedly earned the respect of tennis fans.

The 24-year-old Italian has just produced his best-ever Grand Slam run, during which he overcame the likes of Felix Auger-Aliassime and Learner Tien.
