Novak Djokovic has always been very complimentary of Jannik Sinner, and that has not stopped despite their recent French Open semi-final.
After all, despite losing, the match arguably offered the Serbian more reasons to laud the current world number one.
He was ruthless and powerful throughout, with his consistent quality now a staple of his play style. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that people love to compare the current-day superstar with the prime version of the 24-time Grand Slam winner.
Novak Djokovic reacts to Jannik Sinner comparisons
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Novak Djokovic actually responded to these claims that Jannik Sinner’s game closely resembles his previous one.
And whilst he was a little dismissive, the 38-year-old seemed to understand where the comparisons came from.
He admitted: ‘I don’t know, maybe, maybe, maybe not. I’m not sure.
‘I mean, we are all different. But, yeah, I mean, when I was at my best, I was also playing quite fast, you know, all the time. But, you know, he’s a different player and I don’t want to compare our games, you know.
‘I think he’s unique in his own way.’
Whilst he commented on these claims, Sinner instead outlined what fans often get wrong about Djokovic.
Jannik Sinner just had too much for Novak Djokovic in French Open semi-final
It’s a shame that, despite playing one of his best matches in recent months, it was not enough for Djokovic to even steal a set from the imperious Sinner.
Such is the relentless and explosive quality of the world number one, it takes something truly special just to trouble him.
The Serbian learnt that the hard way, who matched him blow-for-blow, yet couldn’t deliver the killer strike needed to break when needed.
He had his chances, but Sinner honed in at the perfect moments, under increasing scrutiny from the
French Open crowd, to see out his straight-sets victory.

However, Djokovic’s performance will afford some optimism for Alcaraz, who will now face the Italian in the final.
After all, the 38-year-old has shown him a strategy to cause issues, and with a younger body capable of competing physically, it might be the path to another Roland Garros title for the four-time major champion.
