Novak Djokovic’s Wimbledon dreams were crushed by Jannik Sinner, who handed him another Grand Slam semifinal defeat.

The 38-year-old was hoping to upset his two younger rivals at Wimbledon and win his eighth title.

Beating Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in back-to-back matches was never going to be easy, and unfortunately for Djokovic, he fell at the first hurdle.

Struggling throughout, Djokovic lost to Sinner in three sets, 3-6, 3-6, 4-6, falling at the semifinal stage for the third time at a Grand Slam in 2025.

The pair exchanged words at the net upon the conclusion of the match, as Djokovic now reveals what Sinner said to him.

Jannik Sinner apologized to Novak Djokovic after their Wimbledon semifinal

During his post-match press conference, Djokovic shared what Sinner told him at the net.

“He apologized for me feeling bad today,” said Djokovic.

The Serb doesn’t believe the apology was necessary, as he praised the Italian for qualifying for his first Wimbledon final.

“There’s nothing to apologize for from his side,” said Djokovic.

“Obviously, he’s done very well for himself today, and for the last year and a half, he’s been the best player in the world.

“He’s gonna have a chance to win his first Wimbledon title. I wished him luck; it’s going to be his first final here, and I’m sure he’s going to be super pumped.

“After the finals they played in Paris, I think the anticipation for this final is big. It’s amazing. They’re definitely several levels above everyone right now.”

Five weeks ago, Sinner lost to Alcaraz in the final of the French Open 6-4, 7-6, 4-6, 6-7, 6-7, failing to convert match points as he lost a thriller on Court Philippe Chatrier.

The win was Alcaraz’s fifth in a row against Sinner, as he extended his winning streak against the world number one.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner’s head-to-head record

Sinner will be hoping to avoid a sixth straight defeat when he plays Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, but will be up against it, taking on the two-time defending champion.

He may, however, take some confidence from their one previous meeting at the All England Club, when Sinner emerged victorious.

How did Jannik Sinner beat Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon in 2022?

Three years ago, Sinner and Alcaraz met in the fourth round of Wimbledon, competing against one another for just the second time as professionals.

Battling it out for a place in the quarters, it was Sinner who took the initiative, dominating the first set 6-1.

Again, Sinner came out on top in a more competitive second set, moving within touching distance of the last eight.

Bravely fighting back, Alcaraz outlasted Sinner in a tiebreak 7-6 [10-8] to prolong their fourth-round match.

He couldn’t complete the comeback, however, as Sinner finished the job in four sets 6-1, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3.

The story of the match was Alcaraz’s failure to convert break points, as the Spaniard couldn’t break Sinner’s serve.
