Novak Djokovic is gearing up to play his first clay court tournament of the season at the ATP Monte-Carlo Masters.
Djokovic will make history in Monte Carlo this year, as he plays the Masters 1000 tournament for the 18th time in his career.
This will be the Serbian’s first tournament since the Miami Open, where Djokovic was beaten by Jakub Mensik in the final.
Despite the impressive performance from Mensik, there were some concerns for Djokovic after his eye appeared swollen in the final.

Novak Djokovic provides injury update ahead of Monte-Carlo Masters
While Mensik is not in Monte Carlo, Djokovic is back at the tournament that he has played every edition of since 2006.
However, when speaking to TNT Sports ahead of his first match, Djokovic admitted that he nearly decided not to play the Monte Carlo Masters due to the aforementioned eye issue.
“It [Monte-Carlo participation] was [in doubt],” said Djokovic. “Particularly because of the infection of the eye and and a little bit of a viral infection I’ve been dealing with last week, but it seems to be okay these days. I mean, not ideal.
“Well the eye, yes. Unfortunately, it started in semi-finals day in Miami and so I did struggle with it in the finals.
“But it’s calming down, I guess. I mean, I’m visiting the doctor later today, so let’s see, should be okay for the for the first round here.
“I have a few more days until the eventual first round. I am still trying to get used to the clay; still managing a few things health wise. Hopefully I’ll be ready.”
Novak Djokovic’s Potential Monte-Carlo Masters draw
Djokovic is a two-time champion at the Monte Carlo Masters, having lifted the coveted trophy in 2013 and 2015.
However, it is statistically his worst performing Masters 1000 tournament, with a 72% win percentage.
Last year saw Djokovic beaten by Casper Ruud in the semi-finals, which was actually the 24-time major winners best performance in Monte Carlo since he last won the title.
Djokovic will begin his 2025 Monte-Carlo Masters campaign against either three-time major winner Stan Wawrinka or Chilean Alejandro Tabilo.
While Wawrinka has the more standout career, Tabilo actually beat Djokovic on clay last year at the Italian Open.
If Djokovic was to progress through the rounds he could face the likes of Grigor Dimitrov, Alex de Minaur and Alexander Zverev, with a potential final against Carlos Alcaraz.
| Monte-Carlo Masters 2025 | Djokovic’s Potential Opponent |
| First Round | Receives a bye as the third seed |
| Second Round | Stan Wawrinka/Alejandro Tabilo |
| Third Round | Grigor Dimitrov (15)/Nicolas Jarry/Valentin Vacherot |
