Novak Djokovic shared his struggles with balancing his tennis career with his home life.

At the age of 36, the Serbian has won 24 Grand Slam titles, more than any other player and is still the ATP World Number One.

The Serbian certainly has nothing left to prove and has accomplished plenty in the game, and as he gets older, he is beginning to want to spend more time with his wife and children.

As a result, though his passion for tennis still burns bright, it would come as no surprise if Djokovic at times lacks the same level of motivation that took him to the top of the game and kept him there.

Novak Djokovic cites ‘lack of motivation’ as he discusses future retirement

A lack of motivation was something Djokovic alluded to during a sit down interview with Nick Kyrgios on the latest episode of the Good Trouble YouTube show.

One of the topics discussed was life after tennis, which still seemed quite some distance away for the 24-time Grand Slam champion due to his catalogue of of late-career achievements.

But during what has been a subpar season for Djokovic in which he has yet to win a title so far, though he still loves tennis he is starting to think more about life away from the game.

“The 4-year-old Novak is still inside and still in love with this sport and still hungry for more,” he explained.

“But at the same time, there’s probably a more mature Novak, a father and a husband, who is like, ‘Come on, man. There’s other things in life too.’

“Part of me always wants to keep going, I don’t have an expiration date. I’m lucky to have my life but, some mornings, I’m unmotivated and less inspired to travel and play when I want to be at home and have a normal life.”

Is Novak Djokovic fit to compete at Roland Garros?

There were concerns around the fitness of Djokovic after a fan’s water bottle accidentally slipped from their bag and hit the tennis star on the head at the Italian Open.

He suffered from nausea, dizziness and he sported blood following the incident. The player even expressed worries with his balance and coordination after a shock loss to Alejandro Tabilo in Rome.

But there is great news for Djokovic fans as media outlet Republika reported that he suffered no lasting damage from the water bottle incident after having his head examined in Belgrade, Serbia.

Therefore, Djokovic is expected to be in the draw for Roland Garros 2024 which will take place on Thursday, May 23.
