Novak Djokovic has been explaining his decision to pull out of the Miami Open which gets underway this week.
The Serbian has taken to X to explain this decision that he’s now taken.
So, what has Djokovic said after feeling the need to not enter the competition in Miami? Let’s take a closer look…
Why Novak Djokovic isn’t playing at the Miami Open
Well, this comes on the back of a shock defeat for Djokovic at Indian Wells when he was beaten by lucky loser Luca Nardi.
Djokovic was beaten in three sets and meant that he remains without a tournament win in 2024.
Now, the 36-year-old has made the decision to not bother with Miami next week and has explained his decision behind the withdrawal.

He said on X: “Hi Miami! Unfortunately, I won’t be playing the Miami Open this year. At this stage of my career, I’m balancing my private and professional schedule. I’m sorry that I won’t be experience some of the best and most passionate fans in the world. I’m looking forward to competing in MI in future.”
Djokovic will now look towards clay season
In our view, this decision is one that won’t have been taken lightly by Djokovic but it feels like the right one.
After such a defeat at Indian Wells, perhaps this will be a good time for him to have a little rest and prepare for the summer.
The French Open and Wimbledon are very special tournaments for Djokovic. With that in mind, he will want to be fighting fit for those.
Given that he’s now in the twilight of his career, Djokovic needs to manage his body very carefully.
It’s a shame that we won’t see the serial Grand Slam winner in Miami – but he will be back with a vengeance later in the year.
