He may have a support on his knee but Novak Djokovic is once again through to the second week of Wimbledon.
The man with seven men’s singles titles at SW19 to his name will face Holger Rune in the next round as he bids to reach the last eight.
Djokovic saw off Alexei Popyrin yesterday, coming from behind to win the match three sets to one.
Something caught the eye when he won, with Djokovic showcasing a new celebration towards his box.
That left fans wondering what it was all about and he was quizzed on it during his press conference after the latest Wimbledon win.
Why Novak Djokovic did violin celebration
Well, it would seem as though this was a nod towards his daughter who has begun learning to play the violin.
Djokovic told the BBC: “That was for Tara. My daughter has been playing violin for some time already, six months, and we agreed that I would celebrate that way.”
Djokovic is bidding to join Roger Federer on eight Wimbledon titles – but things are about to get more difficult.
The 37-year-old will notice an increase in the standard of opposition and he will still be feeling the effects of a knee that hasn’t long been operated on.
It will be fascinating to see how that stands up in the coming days and Rune will provide him with a stern test in the last 16.
Djokovic running out of time to eclipse Federer
For some time it’s felt like a formality that Djokovic would reach the nine titles he needs to go ahead of Federer as the greatest-ever Wimbledon champion.
However, with the emergence of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner on the scene, things won’t be quite so straightforward.
Of course, Djokovic can never be discounted from winning a tournament he’s been so successful at – and he’s in the mix again here.
However, with his injury issues still ongoing perhaps this year won’t be the year when Djokovic equals Federer’s record.
