Carlos Alcaraz is on top of the world right now, with the young Spaniard adding another Grand Slam trophy to his collection.

The 21-year-old now has three majors to his name after defeating Alexander Zverev in the French Open final.

The success at Roland Garros in 2024 now follows his victories at the US Open in 2022 and Wimbledon in 2023.

He will undoubtedly have the Grand Slam titles of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in his sights, with John McEnroe convinced that Alcaraz is better at 21 than all three of the tennis legends were.

It certainly wasn’t a straightforward win in Paris, with the young star forced to emerge victorious in a 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 battle.

He has since admitted that plenty of doubts crept into his mind after the third set, but Alcaraz managed to pull through impressively.

And the youngster has now got the tennis world talking, with Djokovic, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud sending messages his way after the win.

“Congratulations Carlos,” the Serb wrote on Instagram. “A Slam on each surface. Incredible job.”

The Greek meanwhile wrote on X: “Congratulations on winning Roland Garros, Carlos Alcaraz! It was your dream and you achieved it.”

And Ruud, who lost to Zverev in the semis, had kind words for both Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner on X: “Congratulations Carlos Alcaraz for your first Roland Garros title and your third grand slam title overall, and congratulations Jannik Sinner for becoming world number one today. Incredible to watch you guys.”

How did Carlos Alcaraz win the French Open?

Djokovic, Ruud and Tsitsipas know exactly what it means to feel the wrath of Alcaraz, who ultimately blew everyone away on the Paris clay.

Another match-up with the Serbian was not possible after Djokovic withdrew from the French Open with a knee injury, having played in back-to-back five-set matches.

But the Greek did take on the Spaniard in the French capital, with the former winning their quarter-final match in straight sets.

Alcaraz also knocked out American duo J.J. Wolf and Sebastian Korda in Paris, as well as Dutchman Jesper De Jong and Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime.

But it was undoubtedly his five-set thriller with newly-crowned world number one Sinner that will stand out in terms of his triumphs before the Zverev encounter.

The two heavyweights met in the semi-final, with Alcaraz producing a stunning 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win.
