Novak Djokovic is off to a strong start at this year’s US Open and has now made the third round in each of his 19 appearances at the tournament.

The Serb kicked things off with a comfortable straight-sets victory in the first round over Learner Tien, defeating the young American 6-1, 7-6, 6-2.

He then followed it up with a win in round two, where Djokovic beat Zachary Svajda after coming back from a set down.

With Britain’s Cam Norrie awaiting him next, the 24-time Grand Slam champion has made history yet again at the US Open, alongside world number 77 Adrian Mannarino.

Mannarino booked his place in the round of 32 after overcoming Jordan Thompson and is now set to face home hope Ben Shelton.

The Frenchman and Djokovic have now become the first pair aged 37 or older in the Open Era to reach the third round at consecutive Grand Slam events.

At Wimbledon, Mannarino, 37, advanced through qualifying and won two matches in the main draw before bowing out to Andrey Rublev.

Djokovic, on the other hand, made his third major semifinal of the year at the All England Club at 38 years of age, falling to eventual champion Jannik Sinner in the final four.

The world number seven and his next opponent, Norrie, are no strangers on the ATP Tour, having met each other six times before.

It is, however, a very one-sided rivalry, with Djokovic leading the lopsided head-to-head 6-0 across tour-level events.

Their two meetings at Grand Slams both went the way of the four-time US Open champion, who emerged victorious in the Wimbledon 2022 semifinal and in the fourth round of Roland Garros earlier this year.

On hard court, Djokovic has beaten Norrie twice in straight sets, winning their bouts at the ATP Finals in 2021, and at the Davis Cup in 2023.

Both of those clashes, though, were indoors, meaning their upcoming US Open faceoff will mark the first meeting between them on an outdoor hard court.
