Nick Kyrgios has unsurprisingly been one of the most vocal people on tour following the news that Jannik Sinner has been banned for three months.

Carlos Alcaraz remains focused on number one amid Sinner’s ban, with the Italian set to miss three months of action.

Sinner recorded two positive drug tests last year, and has now reached a settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Kyrgios said it’s a ‘sad day for tennis’ after Sinner’s three-month ban was confirmed, with the latter able to return in time for the French Open.

Both Sinner and Kyrgios took part in the Australian Open, with the Italian winning the title after the home favourite suffered a first round exit.

Nick Kyrgios says Grand Slam champions are calling Jannik Sinner’s ban ‘putrid’

The Australian is seemingly far from finished in his criticism of the decision to ban Sinner for only three months, with Kyrgios now writing on X: “So you were innocent and we were getting fed that you were innocent but now you are suspended from playing the sport?

“Make it make sense. I’ve got multiple players in my DM’s on how putrid this is, even Grand Slam champions. Cooked.”

Andy Murray’s former coach Mark Petchey also shared his verdict, writing on X: “4 Master 1000 events missed and many saying ‘it’s a meaningless’ part of the season, is so on brand and why tennis suffers to attract a new audience. If current fans think it’s not meaningful, why would new fans watch.”

Sinner now finds himself unable to complete from February 9 to May 4, with the French Open getting underway on May 19.

Like Kyrgios, Legendary figure Stanislas Wawrinka was quick to share his reaction to the decision, with the Swiss icon not happy, writing on X: “I don’t believe in a clean sport anymore…”

Agreeing, Kyrgios commented: “You and me both,” but former French Open doubles champion Feliciano Lopez was in disagreement.

“I do Stan,” he replied: “It’s very clear he hasn’t done anything to enhance his performance, that’s proven.

“He’s taking full responsibility for others’ mistakes and three months’ suspension consequently. Longer suspension would’ve made sport cleaner? I don’t think so.”
