Nick Kyrgios is a former Wimbledon finalist, having reached the final stage of the 2022 championships.

He was ultimately defeated by seven-time champion Novak Djokovic in four sets, but produced some of the best tennis of his career during his campaign at the All England Club that year.

The final appearance marked his best finish at a Grand Slam, which the Australian is yet to match since then.

Kyrgios has been largely inactive on the biggest stages in tennis for the last three years, having played at just one major since the beginning of 2023, with the sole appearance coming at the Australian Open this season.

The 30-year-old bowed out in the first round in Melbourne to Britain’s Jacob Fearnley in straight sets.

Recently, Kyrgios, who withdrew from Wimbledon, was asked on Talksport if he regrets his behaviour on court throughout his career, which may have cost him winning a Grand Slam.

Nick Kyrgios speaks on having regrets in his tennis career

Kyrgios responded: “Um, no, I don’t regret it, because, you know, there’s no guarantee that I would have won a Grand Slam at the end of the day, I was pretty close.

“I was two sets away at Wimbledon, and I lost to the greatest of all time. Novak Djokovic.

“Look, would I change some of my behaviour? Of course, do I condone it? No, I obviously don’t condone my behaviour all the time, but I can’t change it. I think that it made me who I am today, to be honest.

“I know it’s cliche to say, but you take one little block down of my journey and it all falls apart, so I don’t regret anything.

“You know, I’m here right now with two good-looking roosters chatting about some sport and, you know, I’m living a good life, so I don’t regret anything.”

When asked if there is a fine balance between entertainment and decorum, he answered: “Yeah, I think that was a balance that I struggled to find sometimes in my tennis.

“You know, I wanted to go out there and give people a show, you know, whether it was good or bad, I wanted, you know, someone in the crowd to go home and say, Wow, I’m never going to forget that moment in my entire life.

“And sometimes that got in the way of me winning, but at the end of the day, I think everyone could admit, when they came to watch my matches, it was unpredictable and they had a good show.”

What Nick Kyrgios has recently said about his return to tennis

Earlier in June, Kyrgios announced he would withdraw from Wimbledon, saying on his Instagram story: “Just wanted to give everyone a quick update – I’ve hit a small setback in my recovery and unfortunately won’t make it back for grass season this year.

“I know how much you’ve all been looking forward to seeing me out there, and I’m genuinely sorry to disappoint.

“This is just a bump in the road, though, and I’m already working hard to get back stronger than ever. Thank you for all your continued support – it means everything to me. See you soon.”

Kyrgios’ last match was at the Miami Open in March, where he lost in the second round to Karen Khachanov.
