Nick Kyrgios has lost in the first round of the Australian Open for only the second time in his career.

Kyrgios obtained an abdominal tear coming into his first match at the Australian Open this year, having already struggled with a wrist problem that kept him out of action for 18 months.

This was very apparent during his first round match, as even the Australian crowd could not boost Kyrgios enough against Jacob Fearnley.

Since coming off court following his early exit in Melbourne, Kyrgios admitted it could be his last singles match at the Australian Open.

Nick Kyrgios has no regrets after hinting at upcoming retirement

Despite his singles campaign already being over, Kyrgios will still play doubles with Thanasi Kokkinakis at the Australian Open.

It was a very reflective post-match press conference for Kyrgios, who looked back on his professional career that began back in 2013.

The 28-year-old still appears to want to continue playing for a bit longer, but does not regret anything from his career.

“No regrets. I’ve had an amazing — my journey is not over, but I’ve had an amazing journey,” said Kyrgios. “My career’s been amazing. I don’t have any regrets.

“I think everything has been a learning curve for me. I continue to try and have fun, just be real, and enjoy the ride. But I think it would be selfish for me to say that I want more, I want more. I’ve had a lot of success. More than most athletes would have. No, I don’t have any regrets.”

Nick Kyrgios’ Career Achievements

With Kyrgios’ career potentially moving towards a conclusion, it now seems unlikely that he will eclipse some of his greatest achievements.

While he has often made headlines due to his behaviour, highlighted by Kyrgios’ recent criticism of Jannik Sinner, the Australian has also achieved a lot of on-court success.

Perhaps his greatest triumphs came three years ago, having won a Grand Slam doubles title with the aforementioned Kokkinakis and reached the singles final of Wimbledon.
