For many years, Nick Kyrgios has been a controversial figure in tennis, with many of his fellow competitors divided in their opinion on him.

The Australian star has never seen eye to eye with the likes of Rafael Nadal or Stefanos Tsitsipas, but has enjoyed friendships with other big stars, including Novak Djokovic.

Before his retirement, one of Kyrgios‘ closest friends in the locker room was three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray.

Now, however, the former Wimbledon finalist says his relationship with Murray is nothing like what it used to be.

Nick Kyrgios gives an update on his relationship with Andy Murray

When asked in an episode of ‘Unscripted’ what Murray means to him, Kyrgios responded: “I mean, I wouldn’t even know if he’s a friend anymore.

“I guess he’s just like a colleague, like, I mean, we used to be closer, but then, I don’t know.”

Kyrgios did, however, explain that Murray supported him through his darkest times as a professional tennis player.

“He was one of the people who was very supportive of me through that, but now we kind of don’t talk as much.

“I wanted him on my podcast, and he acted too important. So there’s your truth. It’s like, bro, find some time.”

Nick Kyrgios’ head-to-head record against Andy Murray

Kyrgios and Murray met seven times on the ATP Tour, with the Briton emerging victorious in six of their clashes.

They first played against each other at the Canadian Open in 2014, where Murray won in straight sets to advance to the fourth round.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist then beat him at each of the four Grand Slams, including the quarterfinal of the 2015 Australian Open.

Kyrgios finally opened his account in their head-to-head at Queen’s in 2018, before Murray won their last career meeting at the 2022 Stuttgart Open.
