Taylor Fritz prepared for Wimbledon better than most, with the American winning the Rothesay International Eastbourne title.
It was the 26-year-old’s eighth title and third on grass, with his previous two victories on the surface also coming at Eastbourne.
The top seed became the first three-time champion in the competition’s history, having also tasted success there in 2019 and 2022.
His attentions are now on the grass courts of Wimbledon, where he has already secured a spot in the third round.
There weren’t many issues in his first round win over Christopher O’Connell, with Fritz easing to a 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 victory.

Some trouble did arise in the second round clash with Arthur Rinderknech, but again the American emerged victorious, winning 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
There was plenty of tension between the duo in the build-up, with the Frenchman accusing Fritz of ‘crying’ and being ‘whiny’ before the match.

The comments came after the pair were involved in a feisty encounter at the 2023 French Open, where Fritz upset the crowd following his win against Rinderknech.
The American has now furthered the rivalry, with footage emerging of him telling his latest opponent to ‘have a night flight home’ after their Wimbledon tie.
Fritz’s fellow professional Nick Kyrgios has now reacted to the footage, writing on X: “This is what the sport needs’, calling the American ‘cheeky’.

Fritz certainly has the admiration of Kyrgios, with the Australian labelling the American a dark horse at this year’s Wimbledon.
The Eastbourne champion now meets Alejandro Tabilo in the third round at SW19, with the Chilean perhaps fatigued following his previous efforts.
He beat Briton Dan Evans in straight sets in round one, but was forced to come through a five-set clash with Italian Flavio Cobolli in round two.
Fritz has only ever made it to the quarter-final stage at Wimbledon, and will be desperate to go at least one further this time around.
He does, however, have a very tough route to the final, with the likes of Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev potentially standing in his way.
