Naomi Osaka has reached the US Open semifinals for the first time since winning the title in 2020.
Osaka struggled to find form when returning to tennis after giving birth to her daughter, Shai, in July 2023.
These struggles have even continued into recent times, but something appears to have changed since Osaka lost to Emma Raducanu at the Washington Open.
After this loss, Osaka split from coach Patrick Mouratoglou, and the former world number one has now disclosed what she was telling people around her at the time.

Naomi Osaka reveals what she told her team after losing to Emma Raducanu
Osaka hired Tomasz Wiktorowski, who is the former coach of Iga Swiatek, after her defeat to Raducanu and this decision appears to have really paid off for her.
When speaking about how her form has changed after her 6-4 7-6(3) victory over Karolina Muchova, Osaka appeared to attribute a lot of this to how her mindset changed after her defeat to Raducanu.
“Actually it was after Wimbledon but specifically after DC, after I played Raducanu,” Osaka said in her post-match press conference. “I called a roundtable of my team.
“I was just very confused how confident that I was in myself, because even though I lost I just remember telling them that I think I can beat anyone from the baseline still, even though I lost.
“We just have to figure out if I have to change my game plan or if I have to do something new or different. Then Tomasz came into the picture and we have been on a roll since then.”
This continued belief in herself has been rewarded in terms of results, with Osaka reaching the Canadian Open final and now the US Open semifinals.
Before hiring Wiktorowski, Osaka had won only 65% of her matches this year, and she has only lost one of her last 12 matches since then.

Naomi Osaka vs Amanda Anisimova Head-to-head
Osaka will need to use this newfound confidence in her semifinal match, where she will play Amanda Anisimova, who got revenge over Iga Swiatek from the Wimbledon final.
This will be a third meeting between the pair, with Anisimova beating Osaka both times they have played before.
Both of these meetings have come at Grand Slams, but they have not played one another in over three years.
| Year | Tournament | Result |
| 2022 | Australian Open (R32) | Anisimova beat Osaka, 4-6 6-3 7-6(5) |
| 2022 | Roland Garros (R128) | Anisimova beat Osaka, 7-5 6-4 |
Osaka had not surpassed the third round of a Grand Slam since winning the 2021 Australian Open, but she will likely be feeling confident from this point.
Whenever Osaka has reached the quarterfinal of a Grand Slam before, she has gone on to win the title, something she will be hoping to do again in New York.
