Mirra Andreeva has continued her impressive start to the 2026 season at the Madrid Open.
Andreeva has already won two WTA titles this year, including on clay at the Linz Open.
Despite not always appearing happy with herself on court, Andreeva has now reached the Madrid Open semifinals for the first time in her career.
This means that Andreeva, who turned 19 years old today, has now won 11 of her 12 matches on clay so far this year, and she has revealed if she thinks she is now one of the best players on the WTA Tour.

Mirra Andreeva says it is ‘a bit early’ to call herself one of the best on the WTA Tour
Andreeva beat former Grand Slam finalist Leylah Fernandez 7-6(1), 6-3 in her latest match at the Madrid Open to move within two matches of the title in the Spanish capital.
This means that only world number two Elena Rybakina has been able to beat Andreeva on clay this year, which came in Stuttgart.
Will Elena Rybakina win the French Open?
If not, who do you think will?
Andreeva is the current world number eight and when speaking to BB Tennis after the match, she was asked if she now considers herself to be one of the best players on the WTA Tour.
While she suggested that it is a hope of hers to happen in the future, Andreeva admitted that she thinks it is too early for her to say it now, drawing comparison to Aryna Sabalenka.
“Probably to feel like one of the best tennis players maybe you need to be like Aryna, because it seems to me that now she dominates and leads the tour,” said Andreeva.
“We can look at it by titles, points and how much time she spent as number one. It’s probably a bit early to say that I think, but everything is ahead I hope.”
Mirra Andreeva is now the top ranked player in the women’s singles draw in Madrid
Although Andreeva claimed that Sabalenka is the benchmark to be one of the best players on the WTA Tour, she is now the highest ranked player left in the women’s singles draw in Madrid.
Sabalenka was beaten by Hailey Baptiste in the quarterfinals, who Andreeva will now play for a place in the Madrid Open final.
How would you now rate Aryna Sabalenka’s chances of winning the French Open on a scale of 1-10?
Andreeva should feel confident ahead of this match, as she beat Baptiste in their only previous meeting at Wimbledon last year.
This is not the only reason that Andreeva should feel confident, as she also has a 100% record in WTA 1000 semifinals.
Andreeva’s two previous WTA 1000 finals came at the Dubai Tennis Championships and Indian Wells in 2025, both tournaments where she won the title.
