Mirra Andreeva is through to the quarterfinals of the Brisbane International after coming through a difficult battle with Linda Noskova.

After going a set down to the ninth seed, Andreeva fought back to emerge victorious 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 and set up a last eight clash with Marta Kostyuk, who knocked out Amanda Anisimova earlier in the day.

The Russian has had to come from behind in both of her first two matches to start the season, having completed the comeback in her opening bout with home hope Olivia Gadecki.

Her meeting with Noskova did not start until later in the day and finished just before midnight.

Scheduling has been an issue for many players recently, but Andreeva said the late finish was ‘not a problem’ for her.

In her on-court interview, the world number nine said: “Well, honestly, I didn’t expect that matches would take so long because my warm-up was at 2.30.

“I was here since 1:30 and yeah it was not easy because I saw that Diana and Madison played for three hours, then Jessica and Dayana they played for almost three hours as well, so I had to hit again before the match to not lose the feeling.”

Fifth seed Madison Keys booked her place in the quarterfinals after beating Diana Shnaider in a three-hour thriller.

Her compatriot, Jessica Pegula, also advanced in a tough three-setter against Dayana Yastremska, which lasted two hours and 16 minutes.

Andreeva continued: “It’s not easy, but you know this is what we [have] got to do, this is our job, and you know, I don’t mind because I love what I’m doing, so it’s so it’s not a problem to me.”

Mirra Andreeva said she was not expecting Linda Noskova’s aggressiveness

Andreeva said of the match against Noskova: “Honestly, I knew that it would be a very hard match. She was playing super solid.

“I mean all those bullets and rockets that she sent. I would be honest, I was not expecting that she would play this aggressively, starting from the very beginning, but I’m just very happy that I maintained the level of my game.

“It’s nice to finish the last one, so yeah, thanks guys for staying until the very last moment of the match.

“It’s very special to play when people are watching at such late hours,” concluded Andreeva, who is seeded sixth at this year’s Brisbane International.
