Mirra Andreeva is hoping to enjoy another deep run at Roland Garros, having reached the semi-finals last time around.

Russia’s Andreeva reached the semi-finals of the French Open in 2024, missing out on a place in the final as she lost to Jasmine Paolini.

Taking her game to new heights in 2025, Andreeva won the Dubai Tennis Championships before adding a second WTA 1000 title to her collection when she secured victory in Indian Wells.

Now ranked sixth on the WTA Tour, Andreeva is being hotly tipped to make her presence felt at the French Open.

After winning her opening match against Cristina Bucsa, Andreeva was asked whether she ever watches back her coach, Conchita Martinez’s, greatest victories.

Mirra Andreeva says Conchita Martinez’s Wimbledon final win against Martina Navratilova was ‘super good’

Speaking to the Tennis Channel after her first-round win over Bucsa, Andreeva gave her verdict on Martinez’s win over Martina Navratilova in the 1994 Wimbledon final.

“One day she told me, you know Mirra [Andreeva], you better go and watch my match against [Martina] Navratilova at Wimbledon. So I put it on and I watched it and it was actually not bad! It was super good,” she said.

“I think it was the final of Wimbledon. That’s where Conchita [Martinez] won her Wimbledon final.”

Andreeva did, however, admit she wouldn’t say the same if Martinez were sitting in front of her.

“The level she played, I’m not sure she is going to watch this, so I am going to say it was great,” said Andreeva.

“But if she was watching, I would say, meh, it could have been better. But obviously, she played great, and I saw that match a couple of times.

“I like that she also shares her experience and advice with me, I think that’s a little advantage for me these days.”

In 1994, Martinez traveled to London with ambitions of winning the title, having reached the semi-finals in 1993.

Entering the tournament as the number three seed, she quickly proved her class advancing to her maiden Grand Slam final.

There, she took on Navratilova, a nine-time champion at SW19, looking to end her career on a high by winning title number ten.

It wasn’t to be for the Czech/American, as Martinez battled through in three sets to win her sole Major title, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

The Spaniard will no doubt hope she can help guide Andreeva to Grand Slam glory of her own at this year’s French Open.

Mirra Andreeva’s route to the 2025 French Open title

Andreeva won’t have been too disappointed with her French Open draw, as her route to a second consecutive semi-final doesn’t look all that treacherous.

America’s Jessica Pegula would be her most likely quarterfinal opponent, someone Andreeva has yet to play on the WTA Tour.

Ranked number three in the world and having already won a title on clay this year, at first glance, Pegula may look like a real test for Andreeva.

However, since Pegula won the Charleston Open in April, she has struggled for form on clay, failing to make an impression at her next four tournaments.

With that in mind, Andreeva would likely be confident of coming away with the win in a potential match with Pegula.

Things may then get tricky for Andreeva, as Coco Gauff could well await her in the last four.

Gauff has already beaten Andreeva twice in 2025, knocking her out of both clay WTA 1000 events at the quarterfinal stage.

If Andreeva were to beat Gauff in the semis, she’d likely take on either Sabalenka or Iga Swiatek in the final, both players whom she’s secured victories over this year.

She won’t want to get too far ahead of herself thinking about potential finals, however, and will now focus on her second-round match against Ashlyn Krueger on Thursday, May 29.
