Mirra Andreeva is one win away from clinching a third WTA 1000 title after reaching the final of the Madrid Open.
Andreeva, seeded ninth at the tournament, defeated American star Hailey Baptiste in the semifinals, 6-4, 7-6.
Baptiste had knocked out world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals, but could not find an answer for the Russian teenager in the Spanish capital.

Andreeva has already recorded an impressive season on the WTA Tour so far this year, with titles clinched in Adelaide and Linz.
Now, the young star has just made more history with her victory over Baptiste at the Madrid Open.

According to Opta Ace, 19-year-old Andreeva is the youngest player to reach Tier 1/WTA 1000 finals on multiple surfaces since Maria Sharapova in 2005.
Sharapova achieved the feat aged 17 at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo that year, when WTA events were still held on carpet.

Andreeva has claimed two WTA 1000 trophies so far in her career, both of which came at hard-court tournaments.
She captured her first such title at the Dubai Tennis Championships in 2025, beating Clara Tauson in the final.
In the next WTA 1000 event in the calendar that season, Indian Wells, Andreeva triumphed once again, this time defeating Sabalenka in the title bout.

So far in 2026, though, things have not gone to plan for Andreeva at WTA 1000 competitions.
She was beaten by Victoria Mboko in the third round of the Qatar Open, and only went as far as the quarterfinals in Dubai.
At the Indian Wells Open, Andreeva suffered another third-round exit to Katerina Siniakova and was then knocked out of the Miami Open in the fourth round.
But in Madrid, Andreeva has discovered great form, having dropped just one set en route to the championship match.
A victory for Andreeva in the Madrid Open final would mark a third WTA 1000 title, and a sixth tour-level trophy overall.
