Weeks have passed since Carlos Alcaraz was left in tears on Philippe Chatrier following defeat in an epic Olympic final.

A thrilling week of tennis in the French capital culminated with a gripping men’s final between the 21-year-old and his intergenerational rival Novak Djokovic.

The Serbian won in two pulsating tiebreak sets, finally claiming Olympic gold – the missing piece in the proverbial puzzle that is his illustrious career.

Despite being over in just two, it is widely viewed as the best three-set match of the year so far.

Alcaraz has since played in Cincinnati in a match he will hope to forget, but his loss to Djokovic in Paris continues to spark conversation – even with boxing legend Mike Tyson.

Carlos Alcaraz has arrived in New York looking to shake off the setback suffered at the Cincinnati Open.

The Spaniard’s loss to Gael Monfils last week was the first time he has fallen to successive defeats since May.

Alcaraz’s matches have attracted superstars from diverse sporting backgrounds, but former undisputed heavyweight champion Tyson appears to have tuned in with the hope of seeing him lose.

When asked if he had an interest in any other sports, Tyson said on the ‘Impaulsive’ podcast: “Tennis. Djokovic, Djokovic is the man.

“Listen, I didn’t think Djokovic was going to beat him [at the Olympics]. He’s always kicking Djokovic’s a**. It makes me so f***ing mad.”

Djokovic claimed a record-levelling 24th grand slam title at last year’s US Open.

This year, after avenging the dismal showing in the Wimbledon final by clinching a gold medal, Djokovic is on the brink of achieving more history.

The 37-year-old opted to skip the Cincinnati Open last week – where he is also the defending champion – in a bid to focus his efforts on the final major of the year.

If Djokovic is successful in his defense for the title at Flushing Meadows, he will move clear of Margaret Court at the top of the Open Era major leaderboard.
