Matteo Berrettini has named the young player he thinks can become the ATP’s next big star.
With the retirement of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the latter stages of their careers, men’s tennis next generation has finally arrived.
It is spearheaded by Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who have won multiple titles and beaten the world’s best when it matters most.
But Berrettini thinks there is a rising star who he thinks can become one of tennis’ top players.
Who does Matteo Berrettini think will be the ATP’s next breakout star?
Fans are always keen to see who will be the leading players in a new era of tennis. Tournaments are currently taking place across North America on hard courts in the build up to the US Open.
With that in mind, Berrettini appeared on the ATP Tour’s YouTube channel to share his opinion on who will end he hard court season on the rise.
His choice was Frenchman Arthur Fils, who is inside the world’s top 25 and reached the finals of the NextGen Finals in 2023.
“Fils is going to have a really good hard court season,” the Italian said. “The guy is really focused on what he is doing. Powerful tennis. I think the hard court season is going to be his season.”

What is Arthur Fils’ record in 2024?
In 2024, Fils won 24 matches on the ATP Tour and suffered 18 defeats so far.
After a runner-up appearance at the 2023 NextGen finals, Fils began this season with a quarter-final showing in Hong Kong and semi-final appearances at the ASB Classic.
Last eight appearances in Chile and Barcelona followed, before reaching the Halle quarter-finals and last 16 at Wimbledon during what was an encouraging grass court campaign.
Fils returned to clay and defeated Alexander Zverev in front of his home fans to claim the Hamburg title, which was the second trophy win of his career.
After making an impression on clay and grass courts in 2024, Fils is ready to do the same on the North American hard courts.
