Emma Raducanu has made another change to her coaching team, just weeks before the US Open.
Having enjoyed success alongside part-time coach Mark Petchey in 2025, the British number one has now hired an experienced full-time coach.
From this point forward, Raducanu will be coached by Francisco Roig, a Spaniard with 19 years of experience on the ATP Tour.

Roig began his coaching career in 2005 alongside his countryman, Rafael Nadal, with whom he worked as an alternate coach for 17 years.
He then joined former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini’s team in 2023, working with the Italian for a year until they split in October 2024.
With fans of Raducanu excited to see what she can achieve with Roig in her corner, they’ll no doubt be interested to hear what Berrettini said about the Spaniard when they parted ways last year.
Matteo Berrettini said Francisco Roig helped him ‘grow tremendously’
Posting on Instagram in the aftermath of their split last October, Berrettini shared some kind words to Roig.
“Hello, everyone. I wanted to let you know that Francisco Roig and I have decided to end our professional relationship,” he said.
“I can only thank him for all the work he’s done this year, his commitment, and the results he’s achieved. It’s been a professional experience that has helped me grow tremendously, both on and off the court.

“I wish him the best for the future and wish him the best of luck.”
Together, Berrettini and Roig enjoyed several positive results, as the Italian charged back up the rankings after years of injury issues.
Reaching four ATP Tour finals, winning three, Berrettini finished 2024 ranked 34th in the world, jumping 58 places from 2023.
| Tournament | Surface | Final opponent | Result | Score |
| 2024 – Austrian Open | Clay | Hugo Gaston | Win | 7-5, 6-3 |
| 2024 – Swiss Open | Clay | Quentin Halys | Win | 6-3, 6-1 |
| 2024 – Stuttgart Open | Grass | Jack Draper | Loss | 6-3, 6-7, 4-6 |
| 2024 – Grand Prix Hassan II (Morocco) | Clay | Roberto Carballes Baena | Win | 7-5, 6-2 |
In doing so, Berrettini won the ‘ATP Comeback Player of the Year’ award, as voters recognised his efforts in 2024.
Since splitting with Roig, Berrettini has struggled once more, as injuries continue to plague the talented Italian.
Now ranked 57th on the ATP Tour, the 29-year-old hasn’t contested a final in 2025, as some in Italy have suggested Berrettini could be ‘under threat’ of an early retirement.
Whilst Berrettini’s future remains unclear, one thing is for certain: Raducanu has just hired one of the best coaches around.
Can Emma Raducanu win another US Open in 2025?
Four years ago, Raducanu shocked the world as a qualifier when she won the US Open on her debut.
Since then, Raducanu has struggled to replicate that form, failing to reach another WTA Tour final.
The 22-year-old has been widely criticized for her coaching instability in the past few years, making frequent changes to her team.
| Month of split | Length of relationship | Coach |
| August 2025 | 5 months | Mark Petchey |
| March 2025 | 2 weeks | Vladimir Platenik |
| January 2025 | 1 year | Nick Cavaday |
| June 2023 | 6 months | Sebastian Sachs |
| October 2022 | 3 months | Dmitry Tursunov |
| July 2022 | 1 month | Iain Bates and Jane O’Donoghue |
| April 2022 | 5 months | Torben Beltz |
| September 2021 | 3 months | Andrew Richardson |
| July 2021 | 4 months | Nigel Sears |
It looked as though things had finally clicked with Petchey alongside her; however, as the 55-year-old wasn’t prepared to commit to the role full-time, Raducanu decided to bring in Roig.
Roig will arguably be working with the best version of Raducanu we’ve seen since she won the US Open back in 2021.
In 2025, the Brit has produced several stand-out performances, reminding fans why she is a Grand Slam champion.
Emma Raducanu’s best performances in 2025
- 2025 Miami Open – Reached QF (Lost to Jessica Pegula)
- 2025 Queen’s – Reached QF (Lost to Qinwen Zheng)
- 2025 Wimbledon – Reached 3R (Lost to Aryna Sabalenka)
- 2025 Washington Open – Reached SF (Lost to Anna Kalinskaya)
At the three Grand Slam tournaments she’s played this year, Raducanu has lost to Iga Swiatek twice (Australian Open, French Open) and to Aryna Sabalenka once (Wimbledon).
Not for the first time in her career, Raducanu’s major chances have been scuppered by tricky draws.
She could well avoid a tricky draw in New York, however, as Raducanu is on the verge of being seeded for the US Open, which would greatly increase her chances of avoiding the top players in the early rounds.
If the Brit is given a kind draw at the US Open and she continues to play as well as she has in recent months, there’s no reason why she can’t challenge for a second title at Flushing Meadows.
She won’t want to think about a trip to New York quite yet, as she first focuses on the Cincinnati Open, which begins on Monday, August 11.
