Carlos Alcaraz suffered a setback last week at the Olympics as he was forced to settle for a silver medal following a defeat to Novak Djokovic.

However, you can’t keep a good man down for long and Alcaraz is now preparing for the Cincinnati Open – the main warm-up before the US Open.

Alcaraz has enjoyed a wonderful year to date, winning the French Open and Wimbledon with a third Grand Slam of the year on his mind.

Now, he’s ramping up his preparations for the Cincinnati Open and has been practising with a respected player on the tour.

Player sends three-word reaction after practice session with Carlos Alcaraz

Matteo Berrettini is striving to try and improve his fortunes after enduring some rotten luck with injuries in recent years.

He faces a tough match against Holger Rune in the last 64 at Cincinnati and he has stepped up his preparations for the contest.

Yesterday he had a practice knock with Alcaraz and that will have undoubtedly put him in good shape going into the next tournament.

Berrettini recently won the Austrian Open and the 28-year-old will surely take a bit of confidence into his match against Rune.

After enjoying a session with Alcaraz he posted on his Instagram: “Always a pleasure,” alongside a photograph of himself with the Spaniard.

Berrettini can finish the year with a flourish

The Italian was narrowly beaten in four sets by Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon and it’s fair to say that the draw wasn’t kind to the player at SW19.

Now, however, he looks to be fighting fit and that can only bode well ahead of the US Open which starts at the end of the month.

Berrettini is a former Wimbledon finalist and he will be hoping to make waves at a big tournament again now that his troubles are behind him.

The right-handed star is currently sitting at number 41 in the world and for a player of his ilk, it has to be said that feels quite low.

Practicing with Alcaraz should put him in good shape for the rest of the year and it will be great to see just how he’s playing when he takes on Rune tomorrow.
