Coco Gauff is through to the fourth round of the US Open after an impressive victory over Magdalena Frech at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Gauff cruised past the Pole in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, to clinch her 38th win of the 2025 WTA season and advance to the round of 16 at Flushing Meadows for the fourth consecutive year.

The American produced a much-improved performance compared to her first two rounds at the tournament, and continues to build on her game under new coach Gavin MacMillan.

Though the 21-year-old looked far more comfortable on court against Frech, tennis legend Martina Navratilova still wants more from her.

Martina Navratilova analyses Coco Gauff’s performance at the US Open

Speaking on Sky Sports, Navratilova said of Gauff: “She’s still on the back foot too much on the forehand when she doesn’t have to be. Her backhand, where you have to be much more precise with your footwork, she is!

“On the forehand, you can get away with iffy footwork, but with her grip, the strike zone is more smaller, so she needs to be a little more clear where she needs to hit the ball.

“So she’s on the back foot, but you saw the transition, she moves forward just as well as she does side to side. Great volley.

“So I think I would like to see her more in the net, ten or 11 for the match. So a great number there, and the double faults didn’t cost her.

“Overall, the serve held up really well, and she mixed it up really well as well.”

Coco Gauff achieves incredible US Open feat after beating Magdalena Frech

With her triumph over Frech, Gauff is now the youngest player to win 20 women’s singles matches at the US Open since Caroline Wozniacki in 2011.

The US star has already enjoyed seven campaigns in New York in her young career, having won the tournament in 2023.

She also reached the quarterfinals in 2022 and made the fourth round last year, before bowing out to Emma Navarro.

Now Gauff will look to go even further at the event, in her pursuit of claiming a third Grand Slam title.
