Amanda Anisimova’s rollercoaster Grand Slam campaign isn’t over yet, as she has one match left to play…

Just two months ago, Anisimova embarked on an incredible run at SW19, qualifying for her maiden Grand Slam final, following her shock win over Aryna Sabalenka in the semis.

Unfortunately for the American, she didn’t turn up for the final, as Anisimova lost 0-6, 0-6 to Iga Swiatek in just 57 minutes.

Some worried she might need some time to recover from such a devastating defeat, but they needn’t have done so.

Returning to Grand Slam action at the US Open final, Anisimova qualified for her second consecutive major final, defeating Naomi Osaka in the last four.

As she prepares for the US Open final vs Sabalenka, Anisimova has been warned that her attitude needs to be improved by a WTA legend.

Martina Navratilova tells Amanda Anisimova to ‘improve her attitude’ and stop ‘moping around’

Speaking to Sky Sports, Martina Navratilova highlighted what Anisimova does on court, which she isn’t a fan of.

“I think she can get it done [in the US Open final], but things need to go her way,” she said.

“She needs to improve her attitude. Her game is fine, but she was still kind of moping around the court a bit yesterday.

“So she needs to put all her energy into what’s going on on the court and what’s happening.”

The Czech-American proceeded to share her thoughts on the final itself.

“Her strokes are there, I mean, she can overpower or at least bother [Aryna] Sabalenka,” said Navratilova.

“But still, I think the match is on Sabalenka’s racket.”

As a three-time major champion, Sabalenka will likely take to the court as a slight favorite on Saturday, although her and Anisimova’s head-to-head record tells another story.

Amanda Anisimova and Aryna Sabalenka’s head-to-head record

Anisimova leads their head-to-head 6-3 and won their most recent hard-court encounter in Toronto last year.

There are certainly reasons for Anisimova to be optimistic ahead of the final, but only time will tell how she deals with the nerves on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Amanda Anisimova’s record in WTA finals

When Anisimova sets foot on Arthur Ashe for Saturday’s championship match, she’ll do so playing her eighth tour-level final.

Worryingly for the American, she has a losing record in finals, winning three of seven.

Sabalenka, on the other hand, has a positive 20-18 record in WTA finals.

Anisimova has only won the one event above the WTA 250 level, defeating Jelena Ostapenko earlier this year to clinch the Qatar Open WTA 1000 title.

She’ll no doubt hope to pick up her second ‘big’ title when she plays Sabalenka in the US Open final.

The 2025 US Open women’s singles final will take place on Saturday, September 6.
