Fans of Novak Djokovic will be devastated after the latest update on the injury which he sustained at the French Open.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion is set to undergo knee surgery and will therefore miss the Wimbledon Championships.
This is another devastating blow to the Serbian who was forced to withdraw from Roland Garros after an MRI scan revealed he had torn his meniscus.
Djokovic is a seven-time champion at the All-England Club and he no longer has the chance to equal the men’s record of eight titles this summer.
Will Novak Djokovic miss Wimbledon?
It was reported by French media outlet L’Equipe that Djokovic underwent knee surgery on Wednesday morning.
He is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of three weeks, giving him less than a week to prepare for Wimbledon.
Therefore he is expected to miss the grass court major and turn his attention toward the Olympics, which will be played at Roland Garros.
The gold piece of hardware at the sport’s most prestigious event is the one thing missing from the World number one’s glittering résumé.
The transition from clay to grass is not an easy one, especially for a player returning from injury and the 37-year-old has made winning an Olympic gold medal a priority.

What did Novak Djokovic say when he withdrew from the French Open?
Djokovic came from two sets down to beat Francisco Cerundolo 6-1, 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in four hours and 39 minutes on the Roland Garros fourth round.
During the contest, he dealt with some pain in his right knee and at one point slipped and tumbled on the court.
As a result, Djokovic hinted he may not play his scheduled Roland Garros quarter-final against Casper Ruud, before it was officially announced that he had pulled out. He said in a statement: “I am really sad to announce that I have to withdraw from Roland Garros.
“I played with all my heart and gave my all in yesterday’s match and unfortunately, due to a medial meniscus tear in my right knee, my team and I had to make a tough decision after careful consideration and consultation.
“I wish the best of luck to the players competing this week and sincerely thank the incredible fans for all of the love and continued support. See you soon. With love and gratitude, Nole.”
