Madison Keys has broken an all-time record to reach the Australian Open final.

The American produced one of the performances of her career to outlast Iga Swiatek to reach the championship match in Melbourne for the first time.

The 30-year-old had to do it the hard way, as she came from a set down and also saved a match point, before going on to clinch the 10-point tiebreak.

Madison Keys roared with delight and beamed with pride and she waved to the crowd after reaching her Grand Slam final.

Which Australian Open record did Madison Keys break to reach the final?

Keys faced a big challenge playing Iga Swiatek, who she had beaten just once in five meetings.

But the American played fearless tennis and did not back down with her aggressive tennis, and it paid off as she triumphed 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(10-8) in two hours and 35 minutes.

This win means Keys is the player with the longest gap between her first two Grand Slam finals of eight years. She broke the record previously held by Amelie Mauresmo with seven years.

Keys is now one of the players with the most main draw appearances needed to make their first Australian Open final with 11 attempts, equalling Caroline Wozniacki’s record.

Madison Keys emulates Serena and Venus Williams after reaching Australian Open final

By reaching the 2025 Australian Open final, Keys became the oldest player to reach this stage of the tournament since Serena and Venus Williams.

Venus was 36 while Serena was 35 when the iconic sibling duo reached the final in Melbourne back in 2017.

Serena defeated her elder sister 6-4, 6-4 to win her sixth Australian Open title, which was the 23rd and final Grand Slam title of her illustrious career.

Williams later revealed she was pregnant with her first child Olympia Ohanian Jr. when she went on to win the tournament.

Should Keys win the Australian Open title, she will become the first American to lift the trophy since Sofia Kenin in 2020.
