Lorenzo Musetti has booked his place in the Round of 16 at the Italian Open following his victory over Brandon Nakashima, 6-4, 6-3.
The Italian continues his impressive clay swing, in which he has made the semi-final of the Madrid Open, and the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters, where Musetti lost to Alcaraz.
Musetti will face Daniil Medvedev in the next round, who defeated Alexei Popyrin in straight sets to advance to the Round of 16 at the Italian Open.
Pursuing a third career title in the Eternal City, Musetti will need to find a way through the former US Open champion, who he gave his thoughts on ahead of their clash.

Lorenzo Musetti says he has a ‘good chance’ against Daniil Medvedev at the Italian Open
Speaking after his victory, Musetti said of his next opponent: “I think I have a good chance. Daniil is always a tough opponent to play.”
“I never played against him on clay. First meeting on this surface. He’s liking the conditions here this year.”
“It’s gonna be a match for the crowd. For the show. Coming into this match with a great attitude and great tennis.”
The two have met just twice before, with Medvedev emerging victorious on both occasions, picking up both wins in 2023 at the Cincinnati Open and the Canada Open.

Lorenzo Musetti joins elite club of Italians in career match wins
With his triumph over Nakashima, Musetti has clinched his 150th career win at tour level, joining an elite club of Italians.
Musetti has tallied those wins in 267 matches, making him the third fastest player from Italy since 1990 to have completed the feat.
The two players ahead of him are compatriots Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner, who made his return to tennis at the Italian Open.
Musetti goes ahead of Omar Camporese in the list, as well as Andrea Gaudenzi, the current chairman of the ATP.
