Lorenzo Musetti has explained what he hopes to achieve in 2024 – and it’s absolutely nothing to do with tennis.

The Italian player was speaking after yesterday’s win over Jordan Thompson at the Adelaide International.

So, what exactly has Musetti said about his goals for 2024? We take a closer look…

Well, it appears that right now the 21-year-old isn’t overly focused on achieving things with a tennis racquet in his hand.

The player will welcome a first child into the world at the end of March and naturally, that’s where his priorities are.

After beating Thompson 6-4, 6-1 in the round of 16 yesterday he was quizzed on what he’d like to achieve this season.

He told Tennis TV: “The main goal for this season is to try and be a nice father because I’m becoming a father soon, in two months. Hopefully, I can be a great father.

Since making these comments, Musetti has been knocked out of the Adelaide International at the quarter-final stage.

He was beaten 3-6, 7-6, 5-7 by Alexander Bublik after losing a match point to get over the line.

Musetti discovers Australian Open fate

After his defeat earlier today. Musetti will now switch his focus to the Australian Open.

The draw for the first Grand Slam of 2024 was made today and he will face the world number 110 Benjamin Bonzi in the first round.

Musetti will have one eye on the wonderful situation he finds himself away from the court but he will still want to do well in Australia.

The youngster could meet Stefanos Tsitsipas in the round of 16 if things fall into place and that would be a mouthwatering tie.

Musetti won’t be thinking that far ahead though given that he’s never reached the second round at the Australian Open.

The challenge for the world number 25 is to give his all but he will surely be satisfied to receive a pretty decent first-round draw this time around.
