Linda Noskova defeated compatriot Karolina Muchova in the Wimbledon final to claim her first Grand Slam title.

Noskova beat Muchova in an enticing three-set battle, triumphing 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 to hold the famous trophy aloft on Centre Court.

In an all-Czech affair, the 21-year-old got off to a flying start by going a set up and leading 5-2 in the second.

But Noskova began to feel the pressure when trying to close out the match, failing to take advantage of five match points and allowing Muchova back into the bout.

After a decider was forced by her elder countrywoman, Noskova steadied the ship and earned an early break of serve in the third before going on to secure the victory.

Linda Noskova matches the Williams sisters with Wimbledon win

Noskova had never made it past the fourth round at Wimbledon prior to this year’s edition of the Championships, and she was on course for another early exit when faced with Sorana Cirstea in round three.

In the bout with the Romanian, Noskova saved a match point in the third-set tiebreak and did not drop another set in her campaign up until the final.

With her triumph over Muchova, Noskova is now the third player in the Open Era to win the Wimbledon women’s singles title after saving one match point or more en route.

According to Opta Ace, the only two players to have accomplished this are Venus Williams in 2005 and her sister, Serena Williams, in 2009.

Another different women’s Wimbledon champion for the 10th year

For the first time in the Open Era, 10 different players have won the Wimbledon women’s singles title across 10 consecutive editions of the tournament.

Ever since Serena Williams went back-to-back in 2016, there has neither been a title defence nor a winner who has been champion before.

During that time period, the only players to reach the Wimbledon final in consecutive years were Williams and Ons Jabeur.

Since 2000, only the Williams sisters and Petra Kvitova have won more than one Wimbledon women’s singles crown.
