Still pocketing $1.5million for the six games he managed to take off the Spaniard, it’s certainly not been a bad week for the Dane.
Despite a year of fractured coaching relationships and difficult injury troubles, Rune still sits just outside the top 10 in 13th.
With the young Dane often spoken about in purely binary terms about his potential, or waste thereof, Britain’s Liam Broady shared an interesting story about the 21-year-old from a practise session they had earlier this year.

With much of what goes on between tournaments unknown, stories of unlikely friendships often provoke the imagination.
Broady, who reached the top 100 for the first time in his career this year, revealed a story about Rune while watching him play at the Six Kings Slam on Wednesday.
With the Dane struggling for the ranking and success many assumed he’d grip, Broady explained how much of a friendly and humble guy he is on the circuit.
“He’s a really nice guy. I had a practice with him and a funny story with him away from the court in Acapulco this year,” Broady said on Sky Sports.
“I think he was pretty tired and had just got over there from Europe. I think I beat him in the practice and he messaged me after apologising for the practice. Obviously at the time I was ranked 100 and something and he was ranked sixth in the world. It just sums him up.”

An often emotional player, Rune’s lack of coaching stability seems to have somewhat disrupted his rhythm.
Since defeating five top 10 players in a row to win the 2022 Paris Masters, Rune has yet to reach those heights since.
Indeed, Rune even admitted he didn’t deserve to be fourth in the world after his successes that year.
Honest admissions like that are rarely seen in the world of our well media-trained stars. However, with Rune often subject to a lot of flak, his kind and thoughtful demeanour has perhaps got lost.
