Laura Robson has explained what Great Britain star Katie Boulter told her before claiming a big win in San Diego.

Robson was speaking to Sky Sports earlier this morning.

So, what has Robson said about Boulter after she won the San Diego Open? Let’s take a closer look…

Laura Robson shares what Katie Boulter told her before San Diego Open win

Well, it was a huge win for the Great Britain player who has now broken into the top 30 in world tennis.

Boulter is sitting at number 27 in the world right now after claiming her second career title in San Diego over the weekend.

The Leicester-born star came through a gruelling three-set match against Ukraine player Marta Kostyuk, winning 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.

Robson has now explained what Boulter said to her prior to her brilliant performance in this latest tournament.

She told Sky Sports: “I was talking to her before the match and she was just excited to get out there and play.

“I think when you have that energy going into a final, the nerves are kicking in and she was just thinking about the tactical part of it and I think it was a great match-up for her, she knew she’d have a great chance.

“It’s been fantastic and what a way to head into Indian Wells next week.”

Boulter will now have sights on next milestone

It’s not long ago that Boulter was scratching around playing in qualifying matches for the Grand Slam events and trying to break the world’s top 100 players.

Now, she will have her sights firmly on the top 16 and maybe even the top 10 by the end of the current year.

Boulter has never got past the qualifying rounds for Roland Garros but will now definitely be playing there in June.

It’s interesting to hear what Boulter was saying to Robson ahead of yesterday’s final and it would appear she’s not short of confidence.

At the Australian Open, Boulter was beaten in the second round by Qinwen Zheng and she’ll hope to move on quickly from that.

Indian Wells is always a big occasion and after lifting the title in San Diego, Boulter will now set her sights on that tournament.
