Lorenzo Musetti and Alex de Minaur put on a show for the fans in Turin on Tuesday evening.

In one of the matches of the year, Musetti fought back to beat De Minaur, to pick up his first career win at the ATP Finals.

Having served for the match, De Minaur couldn’t quite get over the line, as the Italian fans roared their man home to victory.

The level from both players was outstanding during the latter stages of the match, as they fought tooth and nail in the Inalpi Arena.

Working for Sky Sports, former British tennis star Laura Robson couldn’t quite believe what she was watching.

Laura Robson couldn’t believe the ‘incredible shot-making’ she saw during Lorenzo Musetti’s win

The 31-year-old was impressed with the level on display during Musetti and De Minaur’s fifth career meeting.

“I still can’t believe it. The shot-making we saw at the very end of the match was just incredible. Sitting in that courtside position, I even took my ears out to listen to the crowd for moments at a time, because they were egging him on, giving him everything,” said Robson.

“At a certain point, it was like everything went out the window, head down, chasing balls down, trying to rip winners. To finish the way he did when we all kind of ruled him out, to be honest, when [Alex] De Minaur was serving for the match, you just thought that he had nothing left to give, and he gives it, really great scenes out there.”

Robson praised the crowd for their support of both players throughout the thrilling round-robin match.

“They gave him [Musetti] everything, the atmosphere throughout the match was just incredible,” she said.

“You have to give the crowd a lot of respect as well, because they were supporting De Minaur, when he was hitting a good shot, they were cheering, obviously not as loud, but I think they had a huge admiration for both players and what they were trying to do out there.

“Especially the longer the rally went, they were just gasping, groaning at times when Musetti missed a ball, every single shot that was close to the line, they were hoping it was in for him.

“I have to say, the Italian tennis fans know what they’re looking at and know what they’re talking about.”

Also speaking on Sky Sports, former world number four Tim Henman gave his verdict on the match.

“What an incredible performance. How [Lorenzo] Musetti has found the energy to turn that around… He kept the belief, the crowd got behind him, and just the most extraordinary last few games,” he said.

“[Alex] De Minaur served for the match, but Musetti got that victory to keep his hopes alive.

“The crowd kept him going when you thought he was down and out, but he just found that extra bit of energy, dug deep.”

Musetti himself took a minute to thank the fans during his post-match interview.

The Italian number two was delighted with his performance, moving to 1-1 in the ‘Jimmy Connors Group’.

“Today at a certain point of the match, I was really, really struggling physically because Alex [De Minaur] raised the level, the intensity and I was really struggling to find the solution, but then at the end, with a big heart, with a big passion for this game, I don’t know from where, I started to feel better and to play better,” he said.

“Then the support of the crowd, it’s amazing, I have to thank them all.”

Musetti then looked ahead to his final group stage game, where he will take on six-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz.

“I’m a warrior, I think I improved a lot on that side, on the mental side. I’m pushing myself to the limit, because every match I’m playing with the top players,” he said.

“I know the next one coming is against Carlos [Alcaraz], I know how difficult it is, especially in these conditions. I will try to enjoy and fight like I did today.”
