Karolina Muchova defeated Victoria Mboko 6-4, 7-5 in the 2026 Qatar Open final.
In doing so, she picked up her first WTA title since the 2019 Korea Open.
Ending her six-year trophy drought, Muchova soaked in the atmosphere as the Doha crowd congratulated their new champion.

But for every winner, there’s a loser, and Mboko was understandably disappointed with the result.
She may not be upset for long, though, if Muchova’s prediction comes true…
Karolina Muchova predicts Victoria Mboko will win ‘many titles’ in her career
The Czech star was struggling to find the right words in her post-match speech, but made sure to congratulate her opponent.
“It’s been a while since I won a tournament, so it’s just nice to get that feeling again, to be reminded of that victory feeling here in Doha, it’s incredible,” said Muchova.

“Thank you very much.
“I’m very excited, if I can take my words, I’d like to, as well, congratulate Victoria, you’re still a teenager if I’m not mistaken, and you play with so much maturity, and you play incredible, it’s been an incredible week for you.

Muchova believes Mboko will win many more titles in her career, and you can understand why.

The Canadian is still just 19, but has already played four WTA finals, two of which at the WTA 1000 level.

It’s fair to say Mboko will be a title challenger for years to come…
Today was Muchova’s day, though, and she was thrilled to celebrate the win with her team.
“I would like… I’m just so excited as well for my team that we get to experience this together, so thank you for standing here with me, taking care of me this week,” she said.
“Thank you, everyone, your support means a lot, and I’m just very glad that we get to celebrate it and live this win together.”
She then finished her speech by thanking the Qatar Open tournament organisers and the fans.
“I would like to thank everyone who makes this incredible tournament possible,” said Muchova.
“I would like to thank all of you for coming here, especially these last rounds, for making the atmosphere so great. Thank you very much.
“It’s my first WTA 1000 title, and I’m so incredibly happy that it’s here in Doha, thank you!”
Having lost her first two WTA 1000 finals, Muchova finally won a ‘big’ tournament, at the third time of asking.

During Sky Sports’ post-match coverage, former British tennis star Mel South shared her thoughts on Muchova’s triumph.
“She is absolutely elated to get such a big trophy,” she said.
“She can’t wait to get her hands on it. She was phenomenal all week, but she raised her level even more out there today.

“She said she was exhausted after her semifinal yesterday, but pushed on through, kept her eye on the prize, and she’s taken it.
“Fantastic form. Lovely reactions with her team, because it’s everyone who puts the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle together.”
South noted that the win moves Muchova to within touching distance of the WTA top 10.
“It’s been so long since she’s held a trophy, a wonderful moment,” she said.
“Now just one place behind [Victoria] Mboko in the rankings after winning her first 1000 event.”
