Though there is still plenty of his career to be played out, Carlos Alcaraz is arguably on track to become the greatest tennis player of all time.

The Spaniard, still just 22 years old, already has seven Grand Slam titles to his name, which is as many as John McEnroe captured overall.

Alcaraz has claimed 26 ATP titles in total and has tallied 66 weeks at world number one, which ranks joint 12th all-time alongside his great rival, Jannik Sinner.

Longevity is a must if he wants to match the major tally of Novak Djokovic, with the Serb currently on 24 and still searching for more.

Alcaraz’s former coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, thinks he can get there, but suggested there’s one thing that might hold him back.

Juan Carlos Ferrero discusses Carlos Alcaraz’s future

As per Clay, Ferrero said: “Alcaraz can be one of the best in history. In terms of results, he is already breaking many records.

“He has the tennis, the physicality and the mental strength. The only thing that could stop him would be losing motivation, something that can happen when you start so young.

What would the score be if Carlos Alcaraz faced prime Roger Federer?

Who is winning and in how many sets?

“I’ve always told him that when motivation runs out, discipline has to take over.

“As long as he keeps enjoying himself and playing the way he is now, he will have a very long career.”

Ferrero split with Alcaraz during the offseason, ending an incredibly successful seven-year player-coach relationship.

Since then, Alcaraz has gone on to become the youngest player ever to complete the Career Grand Slam.

Carlos Alcaraz’s Monte-Carlo Masters campaign so far

After a disappointing end to his Miami Open campaign, Alcaraz has enjoyed a promising run at the first clay-court Masters event of the season in Monte-Carlo.

Alcaraz kicked off his title defence with a straight-sets win over Sebastian Baez, and came through a difficult test against Tomas Martin Etcheverry in round three.

Faced with eight-seed Alexander Bublik in the quarterfinals, Alcaraz made quick work of the tough assignment, winning the match 6-3, 6-0.

Now, Alcaraz will face off against Valentin Vacherot for the first time ever, with a place in the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters up for grabs.

In the other semifinal, Sinner will take on Alexander Zverev for the third time this season.
