Jon Wertheim thinks Danielle Collins will be a force to be reckoned with in the final US Open of her career.
Not only will the 30-year-old play at Flushing Meadows for the final time, but she will also compete in the last Grand Slam of her career.
This is because Collins announced she will retire from tennis at the end of the 2024 season due to her desire to be out of the spotlight and start a family.
Therefore, she has one final shot to join the elite club of major winners and Wertheim thinks she has every chance of making that dream become a reality.
How does Jon Wertheim think Danelle Collins will fare at the US Open?
In full flow Danielle Collins is one of the most destructive players on the WTA Tour as her attacking game and piercing groundstrokes leave her opponents feeling bewildered.
Being on home soil and having the crowd on her side are the ingredients for success for the World number nine, given her two titles this year both came in the US.
Adding to the fact this is her final major, Wertheim expects Collins to have a strong run at the US Open.
“I think Danielle Collins probably figured she needed to get in some matches. If and when she wins her next match, it will be her 40th win of the season that’s very solid,” he told the Tennis Channel.
“The less good news is that she had more than 30 going into Roland Garros so her momentum has slowed a little bit this summer.
“But she’s the kind of player who will play off the occasion, play off the energy and the tennis Savvy crowd in New York will know that this is her last major. I would not at all be surprised if there was a deep run in Danielle Collins’ last major.”

Is Danielle Collins playing before the US Open?
Collins was due to compete at the Canadian and Cincinnati Open but she withdrew due to an abdominal injury.
Collins returned to action at the Monterey Open, a WTA 500 event in Mexico to try and get some matches under her belt before competing at the US Open.
She entered the tournament as the top seed and things have not gone according to plan, as Collins suffered a shock loss to Erika Andreeva in her opening match.
The American took the opening set in emphatic fashion but she was unable to sustain her level as the 20-year-old battled her way back into the match.
She only grew in confidence and went on to complete a comeback by winning 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in one hour and 51 minutes.
