This year’s Wimbledon played host to some moments of brilliance, misfortune, mayhem and everything in between.
After all, with a Grand Slam played on the wild and notoriously unpredictable grass courts, what else would be expected?
Carlos Alcaraz and Barbora Krejčíková were crowned the eventual champions in the singles, and both have been lauded for their remarkable respective runs to the title.
However, it was as we crept into the second week that we inarguably got the funniest moment of the tournament, and ironically so, it was something that actually occurred outside of matches.
John McEnroe recalls funny Wimbledon moment with Daniil Medvedev
Speaking on Good Trouble with Nick Kyrgios, the dynamic duo was reunited as the affable and controversial Australian sat beside the equally controversial John McEnroe to comb over their views on tennis and beyond.
Having struck up a public bond this year, as the two were often paired together for commentary duties, the BBC made the intelligence decision to combine their services once again, and it worked a treat.
Equal parts analytic and entertaining, the American was the subject of attention in this podcast, asked about his particular era of the sport.
When quizzed on the wooden rackets in particular and how they might translate the modern game, he recalled a funny situation he shared with Daniil Medvedev.
McEnroe claimed: ‘You know what was funny? I did this bit with Medvedev yesterday and part of it was him dressing like me with a wooden racket. And the guy was volleying amazing. He goes ‘Oh my god I’m better with a wood racket!’ But generally, that would be true [it’s harder with a wooden racket].’
The funniest moments of Wimbledon 2024
Whilst this infamous Medvedev and McEnroe advert will likely take the crown as the funniest moment to come out of Wimbledon, as the tall Russian adorned a big curly wig and a wooden racket to advertise trading broker Pepperstone.
However, that’s not to suggest that things that occurred on the court did not bring a smile to fans’ faces either.
Watching McEnroe and Nick Kyrgios prowl the premises and poke fun at Andrey Rublev on the latter’s Instagram story marked another humorous moment.

Another was Emma Raducanu walking through the tunnel and accepting high-fives from the ball kids, only to rush back and ask for a photo with them all just seconds later.
A funniest-moments compilation cannot be made without Alexander Bublik, who saw a grin spread across his own face after successfully acing Tommy Paul with an underarm serve.
And finally, even before the tournament began, watching Aryna Sabalenka and Ons Jabeur dance and joke in their practice could bring a smile to the steeliest of faces.
That was cut short when Sabalenka pulled out of Wimbledon before the tournament had even begun.
