John McEnroe praised Carlos Alcaraz’s forehand at the French Open.

The tennis legend is commentating on the clay court Grand Slam and watched the 21-year-old do battle in his second round match.

The Spaniard is trying to win his third major and his first in Paris, to add to his Wimbledon and US Open crowns.

One weapon that can help Alcaraz to achieve success at Roland Garros is his forehand, which McEnroe gave a glowing assessment.

What did John McEnroe say about Carlos Alcaraz’s forehand?

Alcaraz brings many weapons to a tennis court, but perhaps none greater than his forehand. This shot has brought the former World number one plenty of success as his power and spin have caused opponents plenty of problems on court.

Ahead of his match at the French Open, McEnroe on Eurosport: “When he really unleashes that forehand, it’s about as big as I’ve ever seen, it’s a beautiful shot.

“He’s probably holding back a little bit just to make sure, the idea is to win seven matches, you want to save as much as possible early on and break it out more when you need it. He looked like Carlos Alcaraz which was the thing that made me happy and the rest of the tennis world.”

During the match McEnroe added: “This is the most skilled player I’ve seen in 10 or 15 years at the net at such a young age, and he’s been doing this for a couple of years.”

Who will Carlos Alcaraz play in the next round of the French Open?

Should Alcaraz defeat Jesper De Jong to reach round three, he will take on America’s Sebastian Korda should he get past Kwon Soon-woo.

The pair have played on four previous occasions with Alcaraz winning three of those contests.

They have already played one another at Roland Garros, back in 2022, which the Spaniard won in straight sets.

Korda’s only win came at the Monte Carlos Masters in 2022 in a tight 7-6(2) 6-7(5) 6-3 battle in the third round.
