Jannik Sinner is now just two wins away from a successful Wimbledon title defence after reaching the semifinals of the Championships.

Sinner defeated Jan-Lennard Struff in the quarterfinals to book his place in the final four, overcoming the big-serving German 7-5, 7-6, 6-3.

After being forced to a decider in his opening match of the tournament with Miomir Kecmanovic, the Italian has not dropped a set at Wimbledon.

Sinner has earned straight-set wins over Nuno Borges, Jenson Brooksby, Shintaro Mochizuki and Struff en route to his third semifinal appearance at the All England Club.

But tennis legend John McEnroe is still not convinced the world number one is playing his best tennis.

John McEnroe reacts to Jannik Sinner’s latest win at Wimbledon

Speaking on BBC’s coverage of Wimbledon after the match, McEnroe said of Sinner: “He can definitely take it up a notch.

“There is no question, and he is going to need to if he is to win this one.

“It was about a B+ in the bigger moments [today]. He is getting it done; he got it done in the bigger moments, but he knows there is work to be done.”

Though he has not dropped a set since the clash with Kecmanovic, Sinner has come close to conceding, having been forced to four tiebreaks.

He had to come through two tiebreaks in his second-round matchup with Borges and won shootouts against Mochizuki and Struff.

With his triumph, Sinner has now reached his 10th semifinal at a Grand Slam, nine of which have come in the last three years.

Since 2000, he is one of five players to make 10 final-four appearances at majors before turning 25 years old.

The other four are Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and his rival, Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner made his first Grand Slam semifinal at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships, where he fell to Djokovic in straight sets.

At the Australian Open in 2024, he earned revenge against the Serb, beating him in four sets before going on to win a maiden major title.

Since then, Sinner has added four Grand Slam titles to his name, while also tallying two runner-up finishes.
