Emma Raducanu’s run to the Wimbledon fourth round prompted praise from commentator John McEnroe.

The Brit has endured a difficult 2024 season after returning in January after months out following double wrist and ankle surgery.

She struggled to find her form and consistency in the following months but after stepping back on grass the player began to find her groove.

Fans are starting to get excited about just how far the 21-year-old can go at Wimbledon in 2024, and McEnroe is impressed by what he has seen.

In front of a packed crowd on Centre Court, Raducanu defeated Maria Sakkari to reach the last 16 at a Grand Slam for the first time since winning the 2021 US Open.

The Bromley local is back in the fourth round at SW19 for the first time since her main draw debut, two months before stunning the world at Flushing Meadows.

But perhaps for the first time since then, Raducanu is back playing free and fearless tennis with a huge smile on her face, and with her injury woes now seemingly behind her.

Though McEnroe is pleased by all of this, he was surprised by how long it has taken for the former British number one to return to her best form.

“I am so happy to see her back in the mix, after what she’s been going through with the injuries and the changes that she has made,” the seven-time Grand Slam winner said.

“Anyone that can win a major, coming from the qualifying and not losing a set, you know has the potential to be a truly great player.

“It has taken longer than I anticipated and longer than she wanted, but she is there again. And she looks like she could be very dangerous.”

Who has Emma Raducanu beaten at Wimbledon?

Raducanu was due to begin her Wimbledon campaign against 22nd seed Ekaterina Alexandrova but after she pulled out due to illness, she was replaced with the lucky loser Renata Zarazúa.

Raducanu claimed a 7-6(0), 6-3 win, and she has been dominant from that point as she conceded just three games against Elise Mertens in round two.

She then faced Sakkari and recorded her second top 10 win in as many weeks after defeating Jessica Pegula at the Eastbourne International.

Raducanu will take on Lulu Sun in round four, who upset eighth seed Qinwen Zheng in round one. She also has her mixed doubles opening round match with Andy Murray to look forward to on Saturday.
