Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are on track to catch the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in Grand Slam titles.

When it was confirmed that Alcaraz would face Sinner in the US Open final, the Spaniard and the Italian recorded a second consecutive year of splitting all four major crowns between them.

The new world number one now has six to his name in total, matching the tallies of Boris Becker and Stefan Edberg.

Sinner, on the other hand, collected his fourth Grand Slam this year after becoming the first from his country to emerge victorious in singles at Wimbledon.

Former US stars pick who will be the first to 25 Grand Slam titles

The top two-ranked players look set to dominate men’s tennis for the foreseeable future, and former American star Steve Johnson thinks they will finish with more majors than Djokovic.

When asked in an episode of ‘Nothing Major’ to pick who he thinks will reach 25th Grand Slam titles first, Johnson said: “I think it’s Carlos. I am taking Carlos, then Sinner, then Novak. That is terrifying to say!”

Sam Querrey agreed: “I’m taking Carlos too. But, yeah, no disrespect to Novak.”

Jack Sock added: “I think I am the same exact lineup. I think Carlos and Sinner is like 50/50 for me, and then Novak is third on that, which is scary to say.”

Former Wimbledon finalist John Isner then said: “I keep going back. I was Team Sinner before the US Open, and now after the US Open, I’m Team Alcaraz.

“It could flip! But Novak said it, he said that it’s hard late in the Slam to beat these two players in particular in three out of five. He fell short at Roland Garros, the US Open and Australia in the semifinals.”

What Novak Djokovic needs to happen to win another major title

Djokovic has made it clear that he can’t compete with Sinner and Alcaraz in a best-of-five set match deep into a Grand Slam.

The Serb is, however, clearly still the third-best player in the world, evident by his victories against the likes of Alexander Zverev at Roland Garros and Taylor Fritz at the US Open.

If Djokovic is to win another major championship before retiring, he will need another star to upset one of Sinner or Alcaraz early on in the tournament.

Should he be given a path to the title that does not involve a clash with the world number one or two, the 24-time Grand Slam champion is more than capable of clinching number 25.
