As Taylor Fritzβs ATP Finals campaign came to an end, so did his 2025 season on the tour.
Fritz lost to Alex de Minaur in his final group stage match at the year-end event, which ultimately denied him a place in the semifinals.
Though his run in Turin did not go as he would have hoped, the Americanβs year has been another successful one.

Finishing the season as the highest-ranked US menβs player, Fritz has added two more ATP titles to his name this season, while also reaching the semifinals of Wimbledon and the quarterfinals at the US Open.
Following his loss to De Minaur at the ATP Finals, former American tennis star John Isner assessed his compatriotβs year.
John Isner assesses Taylor Fritzβs 2025 season on the ATP Tour
Speaking on the βNothing Majorβ podcast, Isner said: βWhat weβve said in the past is when the dust settles at the end of the year, you typically see Taylor Fritz as the number one-ranked American. I think he had a great year.
βHe backed up his year last year. It was fantastic. He battled a few health issues, I think, throughout the year. But in typical Fritz fashion, he just powers through everything.
βIt does seem as if he finally ran out of gas a little bit against De Minaur there in that match yesterday. Knowing that, I think if Taylor just wins one set, he likely advances to the semi-finals, so he had a lot to play for.β
De Minaur had to win in straight sets against Fritz to keep his hopes of advancing alive, and the Australian did just that, triumphing 7-6, 6-3.
Where do you think Felix Auger-Aliassime will finish the year ranked next year?
βHe did not play his best match,β said Isner. βObviously, credit to De Minaur. He picked it up, especially in that first tiebreaker. He won the first set tiebreaker easily and then kept the momentum up.
βBut Fritz had a great year. Now heβs got to get back home and rest up and get ready to do it again. I mean, what more can he ask for? In my mind, heβs maximising right now.
βThatβs all you can ask for, so look for him to kind of recoup and get his body healthy. He said as much in his press conference yesterday, he needs to get it 100% and get back to the practice court and try to close the gap on these players ranked ahead of him.β
John Isner calls Taylor Fritzβs ATP Finals run βdisappointingβ
Fritz was the favourite to finish second in the Jimmy Connors group at the ATP Finals, but ultimately came third, topping only Lorenzo Musetti with a better set win percentage.
| Position | Player | Match W/L | Set W/L | Set W% | Game W/L | Game W% |
| 1 | Carlos Alcaraz | 3-0 | 6-1 | 85.71% | 44-28 | 61.11% |
| 2 | Alex de Minaur | 1-2 | 3-4 | 42.86% | 37-39 | 48.68% |
| 3 | Taylor Fritz | 1-2 | 3-4 | 42.86% | 36-39 | 48.00% |
| 4 | Lorenzo Musetti | 1-2 | 2-5 | 28.57% | 29-40 | 42.03% |
Isner said of Fritzβs campaign in Turin: βI mean, he made finals last year. Itβs a bit disappointing. And after opening up his campaign with the straight set win over Musetti, it looked as if he was going to get through for sure.
βHe was definitely the favourite [to finish second], especially after that first day, but Carlos was too good. He just dominates the group and leaves a little window for each of those three guys to try to get in at one and two.β
Fritz made his third career appearance at the ATP Finals, and recorded his worst finish yet, having made the semifinals in 2022, and the final in 2024.
