Jiri Lehecka is the latest player to fall victim to Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open after losing their quarterfinal match.

Alcaraz has been tipped for US Open success this year, and the Spaniard is now into the semifinals in New York.

He has yet to drop a set at the fourth and final Grand Slam of 2025, defeating Lehecka 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 to continue that trend.

Lehecka lost the Queen’s final to Alcaraz earlier this season, and was unable to exact revenge on his ATP rival at Flushing Meadows.

The Spaniard has now moved on to a semifinal meeting with Novak Djokovic, a four-time winner of the US Open.

Alcaraz meanwhile is eyeing a second US Open title, while Lehecka has now fallen short of a maiden Grand Slam title.

And shortly after his exit, the Czech ace wrote on Instagram: “From dreaming about playing on the biggest tennis stage in the world to fighting for every point on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

“We can’t have all at once, thats why the win will come next time. Experiencing the fact that pressure is a privilege.

“That is the reason why I started exactly where I was, fought with what I had and did what I could. Thank you New York City, all the fans, supporters and US Open. Can’t wait to see you next year!”

Lehecka also took to X to share his feelings, writing: “Thank you so much New York City and all the fans. Unfortunately didn’t go my way today but I am still grateful for the result in the last Grand Slam of 2025.”

Jiri Lehecka helps make Czech tennis history at the US Open

Lehecka can hold his head extremely high after reaching the US Open quarterfinals, his joint-best result at a Grand Slam.

The 23-year-old’s game is clearly at a very good place right now, with the same to be said of Czech tennis in general.

Hugely impressively, he was joined in the last eight by WTA stars and compatriots Karolina Muchova, Barbora Krejcikova and Marketa Vondrousova.

Their appearances ensured four Czech players reached the quarterfinals of the US Open for the very first time.

Unfortunately, Vondrousova was forced to retire hurt before her meeting with Aryna Sabalenka, while Krejcikova lost her tie with Jessica Pegula.

But Muchova remains at the hard-court Grand Slam, where she takes on former world number one Naomi Osaka.

Lehecka’s bright future meanwhile is joined by the likes of Jakub Mensik and Tomas Machac on the ATP Tour.

All three players are currently within the top 22 in the world rankings, with 19-year-old Mensik leading the way in 16th.
