Alex de Minaur enjoyed another big win last time out, picking up his first title of the season.
The Australian star saved championship points in the capital, as De Minaur defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 5-7, 6-1, 7-6, to clinch the Washington Open title.
Battling to victory, De Minaur made a triumphant return to the top ten as he jumped five places to eighth.

The 26-year-old will now switch his focus to the Canadian Open, where he finished as runner-up to Jannik Sinner in 2023.
Reacting to De Minaur’s latest win, one ATP Tour legend has given his verdict on the five-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist.
Jimmy Connors was very ‘surprised’ to hear Alex de Minaur has won ten ATP titles
During the latest episode of ‘Advantage Connors’, former world number one Jimmy Connors shared what he heard about De Minaur that surprised him.
“He is under the radar! He has won ten titles,” said Connors.
“That is a surprising statistic for me to hear, that he has won so many titles.
“He is under the radar, but maybe he likes it that way. He comes in and takes care of his business.
“He is a tough out. To beat him, you have to go out and be at the top of your game.

“He just goes out quietly about his business and collects cheques and collects titles. That is not a bad thing.”
As Connors mentioned, De Minaur has now won ten titles on the ATP Tour, a mightily impressive tally.

Is Alex de Minaur a dark horse to win the Canadian Open?
After Wimbledon, several big names, including Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic, all withdrew from the Canadian Open.
With three of the best players in the world choosing not to make the trip to Toronto, their rivals will be looking to take advantage.
De Minaur has yet to win a Masters 1000 title in his career, but he did enjoy his career-best result in Canada two years ago.
The Australian star defeated Taylor Fritz, Daniil Medvedev, and Davidovich Fokina in Toronto before losing out to Sinner in the final.
He won’t have to play Sinner this time around, but he’ll still have his work cut out for him in Canada.
Alex de Minaur’s route to the title (By ranking)
- 2R – Francisco Comesana
- 3R – Stefanos Tsitsipas
- 4R – Frances Tiafoe
- QF – Ben Shelton
- SF – Taylor Fritz
- F – Alexander Zverev
Assuming De Minaur makes his way past Francisco Comesana and Stefanos Tsitsipas in rounds two and three, he may well be challenged by three American stars.
Playing Frances Tiafoe, Ben Shelton, and Fritz won’t be easy, but if De Minaur can win all three matches, he’ll qualify for his second Masters 1000 final.
Entering the tournament as the number one seed, Alexander Zverev would be the world number eight’s most likely opponent in the final.
De Minaur trails the head-to-head with Zverev 2-8, but has yet to play the German in 2025.
He won’t want to think about a potential final just yet, however, as he first focuses on his second-round match with Comesana on Wednesday, July 30.
