Alexander Zverev has a lot to think about after losing in the semifinals of the Australian Open to Carlos Alcaraz.
Zverev was beaten by Alcaraz in five sets, despite serving for the match in the decider.
This was a match filled with drama, as Alcaraz struggled with cramp in the third and fourth sets of the match.
After falling just short following five hours and 27 minutes on court, Zverev admitted he had some regrets, but eight-time Grand Slam champion Jimmy Connors believes this loss could actually have a positive impact on the German.

Jimmy Connors suggests Alexander Zverev might have more belief after Carlos Alcaraz loss
Zverev is a three-time Grand Slam finalist, and many believe that he is one of the best players never to win a major title.
Although he has missed another opportunity to win a Grand Slam title, Connors has suggested that Zverev could now have more belief that he can challenge the likes of Alcaraz.
Has Alexander Zverev just blown his last chance to win a Grand Slam?
With Sinner not reaching the Australian Open final this year, Connors also inferred that it may have been a big missed opportunity for Zverev, who Toni Nadal claimed is better than Novak Djokovic.
“We talk about Zverev also,” the former world number one said on his ‘Advantage Connors‘ podcast. “I mean, he’s had opportunities and you know what an opportunity he had there.
“I don’t know what to say about that. We’ve talked about him for five or six years now and the opportunities that he’s had…maybe this is the one he looks back on and says, ‘I know I can do it now. Just do it. Just go out, and it’s enough already’.
“To be put in that situation to play Djoker [Djokovic], who had a long match too – the stars might’ve just aligned for him. But to win the tournament you got to beat them all and he had an opportunity to beat the best in the world at the time playing Alcaraz. Didn’t come through, and Alcaraz goes on to win the tournament.”

Zverev would have had the opportunity to play Alcaraz again at the Rotterdam Open next week, but the world number one has since pulled out after winning the Australian Open.
While this does not give him the chance to test his level against Alcaraz just yet, it does leave Zverev with a big opportunity as the top seed at the Rotterdam Open.
The next tournament where Zverev could play Alcaraz is at Indian Wells, but the former is yet to surpass the quarterfinals in his nine previous appearances at the tournament.
